Sheriff's Race



Current Winona County Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude and Bill Spitzer, a current Sheriff's deputy, garnered the most votes Tuesday in a primary that featured six candidates for Winona County Sheriff.
                    
Ganrude received 2,406 votes, or 43-percent, Spitzer got 1,371 votes, 25-percent of the total votes cast.

Kraig Glover received 731 votes, Gary Hoeppner 495 votes, 437 votes were cast for Rob Averbeck and Rod Hanson received 124 votes.

Ganrude and Spitzer advance to the  November general election.

Winona County officials report there are 28,507 registered voters and there were 5,711 votes cast Tuesday which is about a 20-percent voter turnout.
