County Recorder Update
Winona County Recorder Bob Bambenek says June and July had positive numbers for commercial and residential sales in Winona County.
Two high visability sales are the new strip mall being built at service drive west and and Orrin Street as well as the purchase of the Cornerstone Community Church property by Dahl Automotive. At year end it is likely 2014 will surpass 2013, a good year with 19 sales.
Bambenek said residential real estate sales are up compared to a year ago, apparently following a national trend. For july 2014 there were 115 total sales compared to 90 a year ago.
Despite lower grain prices, interest in ag land reamins strong. although only a hand full of sales have been recorded in 2014 in Winona county. Not too far away, about 6 farms have sold in the northern tier of Iowa. The sale price has been $12,000 to $14,000 an acre for good tillable land. Purchasers were farmers.
Bambenek said beginning August 1st it is a crime to record a personal property record that is intended to retaliate against or harass a police officer. Previously, the law covered court officers, sheriffs and county recorders.
