The Minnesota Department of Transportation is trying to dispell rumors that Winona is closed or experiencing significant traffic delays because of the Highway 43 bridge project. Project Manager Terrry Ward told a Winona Radio audience Tuesday nothing could be further from the truth. The very reason MnDOT chose a two-bridge project is so that traffic across the Mississippi River will never be disrupted. As the new bridge is being constructed, the current bridge will remain open. Rehabbing of the current bridge will take place once the new bridge is completed and opened.
