The Levee Park Steering Committee hosted a special workshop Thursday with three consultants from Madison, Wisconsin who are aiding the group in its plans for updating the park.
Ed Freer, with SmithGroup JJR, says after a site visit to Levee Park and meeting with the DNR and Army Corps of Engineers, the idea of a Riverfront Plan can work as long as safety remains a priority.
Freer says the support for the Levee Park project is strong but progress will likely come in small steps.
Some of the priorities for Levee Park brought up were removing barriers to the levee, creating an event performance theatre, find a use for the Wilkie space and providing seating, shade and restrooms for the public.
The consultants are expected to bring back a draft document to a pre-council meeting that will identify unresolved issues and suggest how to deal with them, including funding options. There have been no cost estimates yet on the Riverfront Plan.
