Winona police are investigting unrelated reports of two females being assaulted on city streets early Friday.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said a 19-year-old female reported to a patrolling officer at 1:35 a.m. that she was approached by an unknown man while walking on Liberty Street between 7th and 8th.
The female said the man grabbed her arm, pushed her against a garage, and threatened to sexually assault her.
She was able to free herself when a nearby surveillance light came on an the man fled in a vehicle.
Williams said a 21-year-old female reported at 2:07 a.m. she was assaulted by an unkown male in the 8th and Wilson Street area. The female said a male punched her in the face knocking her down. She was able to get away but was chased by the man until he gave up.
Neither woman was seriously injured and police are continuing their investigation.
The two incidents are believed to have been unrelated based on different descriptions of the men given to police.
