The first of two public budget review sessions by the Winona City Council was held Monday.
Winona City Manager Judy Bodway says the proposed 2015 balanced budget is nearly $46,000,000 and will fund several capital investment projects, including the airport.
Bodway says the proposed budget also contains a property tax levy increase of 3.9 percent over the 2014 tax levy. Bodway says the increase is the result of a recommendation to purchase capital equipment through an Equipment Certificate bond payable over 8 years.
The second session will be held Tuesday (today) at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall. The council will review the budgets of the fire department, public library, building maintenance and the finance department.
The council will vote on the proposed budget in September and set the levy limit, which means the city can lower the proposed levy amount but can not increase it before the final vote in December.
