The Minnesota Department of Transportation says it will keep traffic flowing on Highway 43 during the duration of the bridge project in Winona.
Project Manager Terry Ward said traffic over he Mississippi River will remain open at all times but motorists will see some street closures at times near the bridge.
Ward says the City of Winona will remain open for business through the duration of the $162,000,000 two-bridge project.
Ward says there will be no closures of Third Street and Second Street at the same time. Third Street can have long-term closures but second street closures will be limited to a few weeks in duration. The project will accommodate pedestrian movements at all times but no Highway 43 crossings are planned for pedestrians at Latsch Island.
Ward says there will be a close coordination between MinnDOT, city staff, and local businesses during the construction.
Last week Winona Radio reported that Ward dispelled rumors about traffic being closed down across the river at times. Traffic will remain open at all times.
