Rushford city residents will face a nearly 10-percent increase in their city property taxes in the new year.
The Tri-County Record reports the city council approved a 9.75 percent increase in the property tax levy although that may not be translated entirely to property owners' taxes.
The vote on approval was 4-to-1 with councilmember Vern Bunke casting the only no vote. Bunke suggested city staff might be able to cut some items from the proposed budget to help reduce the tax levy increase.
Mayor Chris Hallum said the large increase was the result of maintaining a flat levy for a number of years.....
