Highway 43 Bridge

While it appears the work to restore the original Highway 43 interstate bridge in Winona has come to a halt over the winter, that's not the case.

State Representative Gene Pelowski says he met with officials from the Minnesota Department of Transportation Monday and learned the work is continuing in an effort to try to reduce the cost estimates for the old bridge.

Pelowski says he was told the corrosion under the bridge is not as bad as was thought and that could save some money on the rehab and speed up the time frame for repairs.

Originally the second phase of the two-bridge project was designed to be completed in 2019. The new Highway 43 bridge was completed last fall and opened to traffic.
