Record Farm Yields



American farmers raised record high yields and production of corn and soybeans in 2016. 
    
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said corn production grew 11 percent to 15.1 billion bushels, and soybean output jumped 10 percent to 4.31 billion bushels. 
    
Wisconsin farmers set a state record with 573 million bushels of corn for grain harvested in 2016. Yield was estimated at 178 bushels per acre, breaking the prior record by 14 bushels. 
    
Soybean production set records across the northern states, average yield estimated at 52.1 bushels per acre, up 4.1 percent. 
    
Wisconsin had grain storage capacity totaling some 735 million bushels in December, split about evenly between on-farm and off-farm storage facilities.
