Books for Nicaragua

Thanks to a partnership between the Winona Senior High School and Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation, level 4 Spanish students of Winona High School have been able to compose original books and donate them to children in Nicaragua.

41 of these books have been written this year so far, all entirely in Spanish. This project not only lets the high school students demonstrate all they have learned, but it also gives elementary children who normally do not have regular access to books the ability to have a dependable library to visit.

The books include an imaginative plot, a page about the author that incorporates pictures of the student who wrote the book, and glossaries for the Nicaraguan children to learn basic English.
