REACH Launch

A new program designed to narrow the gap between between skills of current students and the need for a workforce that can meet the increasingly technical demands of jobs in Winona had its launch Monday night.

REACH is a partnership among Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Winona Area Chamber of Commerce, Winona Area Public Schools, and local post-secondary institutions of Winona.

Local employers experience a significant lack of potential employees with specific skills needed (particularly in the manufacturing sector). At the same time, many students are underperforming; even if they graduate, they often do not have needed job skills or motivation to gain post-secondary education.

A parent-student meeting was held Monday night to launch the new initiative.

Friday, January 27th is the deadline for applications for the program to be submitted to the Winona High School guidance office. Applications are on the WAPS website.  The program is voluntary....
