Wisconsin milk production reached 2.52 billion pounds in December, up 1.7 percent from a year ago, according to U.S. Dept. of Agriculture reports.
Milk production in the 23 major dairy states grew 2.4 percent and topped 16 billion pounds as the average dairy herd for those states grew to nearly 8.7 million head.
The dairy industry in California produced 3.38 billion pounds of milk in December, up half a percent.
Minnesota was at 816 million pounds in December, up 1.1 percent, and two other states, New York and Idaho, had milk production above 1 billion pounds each.
USDA said it was surveying certified organic farms and ranches across the nation to obtain information about organic farming results in 2016.
