Police said a 29-year-old Winona man was jailed early Saturday following about a 4-hour standoff with authorities on Winona's east side.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams it started about 10:00 p.m. Friday when a female at a residence in the 400 block of East Broadway reported she had been assaulted by Joseph M. Miller.
The Winona County Emergency Response Team was called in and attempts to contact Miller in the residence were unsuccessful. Police then obtained a search warrant and entered the apartment where they arrested Miller without incident.
The 31-year-old female reported she had been threatened with a handgun and Miller allegedly choked her before she managed to flee.
Miller was jailed on preliminary charges of felony terroristic threats and second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, plus assault by strangulation, and two misdemeanor assault charges. Two female children in the residence at the time, ages 6 and one and a-half, were not injured.
A 22-caliber handgun was recovered in the apartment. The female refused any medical treatment according to police.......
