Masonic Temple

The City of Winona is responding to the developer's statement on the Masonic Temple building and its historic stage drops.

Hurry Back Productions' Mike Slaggie said he was ending negotiations with the city on developing two floors of the building into an arts and culture center because of the City Council Monday decided to restore some 10 of the 99 drops to the Masonic Temple theater.

Mayor Mark Peterson said the city wants to continue discussions on the Hurry Back proposal about the creation of a multipurpose arts venue.

But should that not occur, Peterson said, the City Council has also received an offer to purchase the drops from the Theater du Mississippi board with the idea the drops would be restored and a new home found for them.

Peterson said the city will continue to evaluate its options for going forward in a way envisioned by Hurry Back Productions.....
