Education Funding

The Winona Area Public School District stands to benefit from Governor Mark Dayton's proposed budget released last month.

Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith told Winona Radio News today that the local district would receive some 1.9 million dollars in funding if the budget makes it through the legislature.

Smith said the funds would help the Winona District out in a time when the district is facing budget deficits and possible cuts.

The governor is also proposing higher education financial aid assistance that the Department of Education says would help some 1,572 students at Winona State University and 377 students at St. Mary's University, along with about 550 students at Minnesota State College Southeast.
