Buffalo County Humane Society

The Buffalo County Humane Association has been designated as the county's humane society under a one-year trial agreement scheduled to begin in 2018.

Under the agreement, the humane association will take responsibility for sheltering stray dogs in exchange for receiving all but $1,000 of dog license fees collected annually.

Buffalo County Clerk Roxanne Halverson said the humane association would receive an estimated $5,000 to $6,000 annually under the contract.

The contract says the humane association must provide an animal shelter with housing and emergency vet care for stray dogs.

It says the humane association must have a qualified person available to provide animal control services daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours June through August.
