The Mason Jar building in downtown Winona has avoided the wrecking ball once again.
An agreement has been reached between the city and the owners for work to continue.
The building has been sitting empty since a fire in early 2015 left it gutted and unstable. Building owner Chase Hoffman is expected to sign a construction loan from Altra Federal Credit Union Friday for just over $1 million to fund the project. In addition to the financing, Hoffman says he has obtained the proper permits and approvals to start construction.
The schedule agreed upon by the city set the deadline for completion by the end of August 2018. If Hoffman is unable to stick to the construction schedule as planned, the city will be able to go back to court to enforce the statute, including tearing the building down. Hoffman's plans are to reconstruct the inside, and retain the outside of the building's historic facade.
