October is domestic violence awareness month, and a number of Winona State University students gathered at the gazebo on campus for a candlelight vigil on Monday night to honor victims of domestic assault and gender-based violence — something one in three women in college experience during their time in college.
On the bench in the gazebo were 11 stories of survivors of some form of domestic violence. Next to the pictures and stories were candles.
Organizer Victoria Parke says this is the second year the Winona State RE Initiative has held a candlelight vigil for domestic violence awareness. She says the goal is to bring more awareness to the issue and keep conversations going beyond just the month of October.
