Winona County-Voting Equipment
Winona County will be looking to update some of its voting equipment following the unanimous support of the County Board.
If approved, the money will come from from a $7 million appropriation authorized by the state legislature in the Voting Equipment Grant Account. It’s designed to assist counties, cities, towns and school districts with the purchase of voting equipment.
The county would be required to pay approximately 25 percent of the total costs for upgrades.
The county is hoping to upgrade in several areas, including a new scanner and vote tabulator and registration in electronic poll books, both of which can help the county become more efficient during elections.
The last update Winona County received was in 2006.
Grant amounts are expected to be announced and awarded Jan. 31, 2017 and funds provided in the spring of 2018.
