In the 100-plus years of providing fresh cut trees, garlands and wreaths, people from all over the region buy Duellman-Kozlowski’s products year after year.
But this is the last Christmas season to buy a fresh tree, garland or wreath from Duellman-Kozlowski’s tree lot. Owner Marie Schueler has been running it for the past 30 years. She says her health has deteriorated over the past few years, and there’s no one in the family willing and able to succeed her role.
In addition to her health and lack of successor, the rise in popularity of artificial Christmas trees has taken a toll on the Winona business.
Schueler says in years past they’d easily sell 2,500 trees from their lot. Now they’re lucky if they sell 400.
Schueler says she plans to move to Florida and retire after this season.
