Winona County Salaries

The Winona County Board voted Tuesday evening to raise the salaries of elected officials in an attempt to move them closer to the compensation of other counties.

The board voted 4-1 to approve the increases for the sheriff, auditor-treasurer, recorder, and county attorney. County administrator Ken Fritz says the idea will be to treat these like contractual agreements and bring the plan back yearly to get them closer to average in comparison to other counties.

While board member Steve Jacob says the elected officials did know the wages when they campaigned for their jobs, the county needs to have competitive salaries to attract and keep good people.
