The Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber of Commerce has been looking for a better place for spring and fall arts and crafts events that have up to 90 vendors. Also, they decided the city needs a place for receptions, speeches, barn dances and other events.
                             
The Post-Bulletin reports the regional event center will also house the chamber office and have public restrooms that can be entered from the outside. The city will own the center and lease it back to the chamber.
                             
It will cost about $1.8 million and be built on the site of the garage that is across the street from the public library. The city will donate the $300,000 in land and the rest will have to come from donations. The hope is to begin work next November, after the SeptOberfest arts/crafts sale, and be open in April 2016 for the spring event.
                            
The National Eagle Center in Wabasha attracts about 70-thousand visitors annually.

On Tuesday voters in the Rushford-Peterson school district approved a $38,100,000 referendum to help finance a new pre-K through 12th grade school building by a vote of 1112 to 1023, or 52-percent to 47-percent.
