All-State Instrumental



Five WSHS Band students chosen for MMEA All-State Instrumental Ensembles
Mercedes Martin (Clarinet), Alex Merchlewitz (Trumpet) and Alaina Rice (French Horn) were selected for membership in the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) All-State Bands for the 2009/2010 school year.   Jonathan Birdsall (Tenor Saxophone) was selected as a member of the All-State Jazz Band, and Erik Chapman (Bassoon) was selected as a member of the All-State Orchestra. These five WSHS seniors were among the 573 students selected from over 2200 who auditioned last spring for positions in one of seven MMEA All-State performing groups.   The students attended summer camps at University of Minnesota Duluth (bands) and College Of St. Benedict in St. Joseph (orchestra).   The All-State Jazz Band will give its final performance on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 in the Ballroom of the Minneapolis Convention Center , and the All-State Bands and Orchestra will perform on Feb. 13, 2010 , at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis , MN .
