More sales tax

State Senator Steve Murphy is lending his support to fellow Senator Tom Bakk who wants to extend Minnesota's sale tax to include clothing.

Bakk is one one of 13 DFL  candidates for governor who would use the money raised to narrow this year's budget deficit.

Murphy, who is retiring from the Senate this year, says lawmakers really don't have much choice in order to make up the deficit.

Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty says he is not interested in Bakk's plan because he feels clothing is a basic necessity that should not be taxed.
