A Red Wing lawmaker's bill to give counties more regulation of proposed wind turbines was rejected by a House committee Monday amid fears it would hurt the state's wind industry..
According to the Rochester Post-Bulletin, Republican Representative Tim Kelly sponsored the bill, which would allow county boards to impose stricter siting requirements for wind turbine projects.
Opponents argued the bill singles out the wind industry, noting that other energy projects, such as coal plants and nuclear plants, would not be subject to potentially tougher county standards.
The committee voted against the bill, 11-6 with DFL Representative Andy Welti of Plainview, casting one of the no votes.
