School Board-Budget
|
The Winona Area Public School Board last week cut about 622-thousand dollars from their 2010-2011 budget but were told unless more cuts are made, the district will soon face a deficit.
Superintendent Paul Durand says, despite the estimated 5.5-million dollar general fund balance for this year, the district is looking at a shortfall of nearly 3-million dollars by 2010-2011.
Human Resources Director Pat Blaisdell says because administration is still unsure of which positions will be cut, additional staff will be put on unrequested leave until those decisons are made.
Administration presented just over 1-million, 330-thousand dollars in potential administrative cuts, which the board requested, over a month ago.
Last week the board voted to restore about 21-thousand dollars for the 4th grade orchestra program and also restored 182-thousand dollars in recommended Middle School and Area Learning Center cuts pending more discussion.
