The third time was the charm for the Rushford-Peterson boys’ basketball team last night. After getting beat by Fillmore Central twice during the regular season, the Trojans knocked the Falcons out of the playoffs with a 54-49 win in the Section 1A East Sub-Section semifinals. The Trojans led by two at the half but put together a 10-2 run in the second half to take control of the game.
Rushford-Peterson won despite leading scorer Blake Lea(Leah) being held down to seven points. Lea went over 1000 points for his career, but he had just one field after coming in averaging 16.5 points per game. R-P got great balance in last night’s game with six players scoring at least seven points. Sophomore Nic Thompson led the way with 11 points while Kasey Olloff added 10.
Rushford-Peterson improves to 13-14 and they move on to the Sub-Section final where they’ll face fourth seed Lanesboro who upset top seed Wabasha-Kellogg 76-74 in double overtime. Lanesboro hit a shot at the buzzer to win it in the second OT.
Rushford-Peterson and Lanesboro will play Saturday afternoon in the Sub-Section final at 12:30 in Rochester. Saturday’s R-P playoff game can be heard on K-Dub Country 99.3.
