Minor to moderate flooding is probable in the Mississippi River Valley in the Buffalo County area, according to the National Weather Service. Current predictions suggest a "significant chance of minor flooding," according to Buffalo County Emergency Management Director Steve Schliffli.
Hydrology information released on Friday advised people with Mississippi River Basin interests to consider making contingency plans to deal with minor flooding by late March or early April. Weather conditions this week continued to allow a slow thaw, limiting the potential for flooding.
Snow depths Friday along the Mississippi River Region ranged from 5 to 15 inches with water content measured at 1.5 to 3 inches, the weather service said. Municipalities bordering the Mississippi and low-lying backwater areas are being advised to check and operate any flood pumps, generators or other related equipment they might own.
