Walz--Earmarks

The City of Goodview hopes this time will be the charm when it comes to getting federal funding to help pay for its two new water treatment plants.

First District Congressman Tim Walz has included a $3 million earmark in his funding requests for fiscal year 2010. Walz had been successful previously in getting the money into a federal bill but the money was never appropriated.

Among the other local earmarks included in requests from Walz are:  $3 million for the extension of Louisa Street to Highway 61 in Winona's east end... $1.6 million for the City of Winona to repair flood control gates in Lake Winona...and another one million dollars for repair and upgrades to Winona's downtown streets.  There is also a $3 million request for Winona State University's National Child Protection Training Center.

In addition, there is an $800,000 request for the City of Houston for flood mitigation, a $1 million request for the City of Hokah, also for flood mitigation,  a $295,000 request for the City of  Kellogg to improve a water distribution system, and an  $82,500 request for the City of Elgin to refurbish its water tower.
