A Winona man, Charles David Sackett has been sentenced in Winona District Court to eight years in prison following his earlier conviction for a felony second degree controlled substance crime.
Winona County Attorney Chuck MacLean said Sackett also had his request for a downward departure denied by District Judge Jeffrey Thompson who found no grounds to support the request.
Sackett had originally been given a stay of adjudication in March of 2008. On December 17h, Sackett agreed to the conviction after being found to have committed a number of probation violations. Sackett also demanded execution of his sentence on two other controlled substance crimes and received a 17-month prison term. In a fourth case he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for violating a domestic abuse no contact order.
All of the four new sentences will be served concurrently with a current 63-month prison sentence Sackett is serving for second degree burglary and false imprisonment.
