Employees working part-time for Buffalo County were given a 20-cent per hour raise.
The pay increase is retroactive back to Jan. 1st. The county board approved it on a vote of 11 to 2 with supervisors Fay Passow and Claire Waters voting no. Full-time managers and supervisors and other full-time, non-union courthouse employees were given a 31-cent per hour raise for 2010. All non-union personnel received cent-per-hour raises in 2010. Proposals to give percentage raises were rejected by a county board majority.
In other county news, the county board voted 11 to 2 in favor of spending American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for a "Birth to Three Program" administered by the Buffalo County Department of Health and Human Services. ARRA funds worth $6,207 were made available for the program. The money must be spent by mid-year 2011.
A resolution adopted by the county board said the extra money would "greatly benefit" the program by affording some funds to purchase related technology tools and equipment. Up to $2,700 will be used to pay for additional work hours in the program as well as "leadership training." Equipment purchases up to $3,500 would include a laptop computer, screening tools, a portable DVD player and four webcams.
The purchases were authorized with board members Claire Waters and Steve Weiss voting no.
