4-H Volunteer of the Year
Michelle Hovey of Lookout Legends 4-H Club in Gilmanton was awarded the 4-H Volunteer of the Year Award by her daughter, Rachel Hovey, on November 12, 2017 at the Buffalo County 4-H Leaders Association meeting. The Volunteer of the Year Award typically recognizes a 4-H Leader who has gone “above and beyond” their 4-H responsibilities, has performed an excellent job as a 4-H leader on the club or county level, and provides outstanding support, guidance, and leadership to 4-H members. Michelle Hovey is a most deserving 4-H volunteer. Hovey accepted leadership for the Lookout Legends 4-H club many years ago and has worked since that time to build the club membership by encouraging local Gilmanton elementary to become involved in an organization dear to her heart. Under Hovey’s leadership Lookout Legends’ 4-H programming emphasized service-learning, leadership development and 4-H project work. The club has raised funds for many local efforts and used 4-H skills to create projects that accompanied those dollars. Without Hovey’s volunteer hours and dedication, the club would not be the successful one it is today. Hovey recently transitioned club leadership yet plans to remain a dedicated volunteer to 4-H in Buffalo County.
