(KWNO)- A 3-vehicle accident that occurred on Hwy 35 a week ago was caused by one driver looking at her phone, says the Buffalo County Sheriff’s office.

Just before 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 10th, Buffalo Couty Sherriff’s office received a 911 call of a 3-vehicle accident on Hwy 35 at the intersection of Henry Ln in Milton Township.

The Buffalo County Sherriff’s office says Errol Doerr, 42, was driving with his family in one vehicle when he slowed at the intersection in order to make a left turn. That’s when Kaylee Tiffany, 24, the driver of the vehicle behind Doerr, looked away from the road at her phone and struck the Doerr vehicle.

Tiffany’s vehicle pushed the Doerr vehicle into the southbound lane of traffic on Hwy 35 which led to another vehicle striking the Doerr vehicle.

Errol Doerr was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two other passengers in the car, his wife and daughter, were air-lifted via helicopter to Saint Mary’s in Rochester, Minn.

Tiffany and the two passengers in the southbound vehicle were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

Tiffany was cited for inattentive driving at the scene and the investigation is still open and ongoing.
